6 mo detailed update...

Current stats as their 6 mo. well baby visit yesterday were:

Hannah - weight= 14lb even (10-25 percentile for actual age, not due date age)
length= 25 1/4 in. (25-50 percentile)
head circumference = 42cm (25-50 percentile)

Mary - weight = 15lb. 2oz. (25-50 percentile)
length = 25 1/2 in. (25-50 percentile)
head circumference = 42cm (25-50 percentile)

Development from 5 months to 6 months:

-Reaching and grabbing for things (mommy's hair and eyeglasses, toys, feeding spoons, etc)
-Holding things and manipulating them in their hands
-Taking 8 oz. bottles 4 times a day (7am, 11am, 3pm, 7pm - roughly)
-Taking 2 meals of baby food a day - cereal at 7am feeding, and 1/2 of a 1st food of new fruit or veggie of the week at 11am feeding- this month...oatmeal, squash, green beans, carrots, and pears, Mary is doing better at keeping most of it in her mouth than Hannah!
-wearing size 2 diapers now (still have not bought a single diaper - using gift ones from baby showers!)
-All baths in big tub - together (is much faster!)
-Enjoying floor gyms and exersaucer
-Rolling over easily - both ways (Playing "Come find me, Mommy" as they roll off their blanket or floor mat across the room!)
-Going to bed on back - usually Mary ends up in the carseat/swing by nights end; Hannah is definately the better sleeper as of now
-They are all over their cribs now... head, foot, on back, on tummy, on side... I couldn't sleep them in the same crib even if I wanted to now!
-Nighttime sleeping has somewhat regressed... thinking they are getting hungry as they grow
-Naps are pretty regular now - 1-2 hours around 9am, and around 1-3 hours around 1-2pm (roughly!)
-they have started to notice each other and interact - babbling, giggling, reaching (this is so cute to watch)
-Hannah's hair is starting to get longer... especially a patch on the left top part of her head. Mary's is just starting to get longer there too!
-They, especially Hannah, have started to lightly scratch/rub with their fingers when content and snuggling or taking a bottle.
-Can ocassionally put themselves to sleep in their crib for naps with minimal fussing if I catch them at the right tiredness stage

Their Drs. appt went well - he is very happy with thier development and growth. They are acting more like 6mo. olds rather than their due date age of 4 1/2 months. He commented that they were both social little things, as they both were smiley for him. He wants me to advance thier diet to include meats and the rest of the veggies/fruits. Also, give 3 meals a day of baby food as much as they will take, along with thier bottles. He suggested starting to introduce 2 handled sippy cups with water or no more than 4 oz of juice a day. He bets they will take a while to catch on, but they can start to experiment. The WIC nurse today also said we can start the baby cereal "puffs" and Cheerios to start working on self feeding. They will get their 2nd set of shots tomorrow, and the pediatrition recommends the flu vaccine, H1N1 vaccine and the Synagis series for the prevention of RSV since they were preemies. That is quite the ordeal - Synagis requires insurance pre-approval as each shot is $2,000 and is given monthly for 5 months - per child! Working with the nurse about insurance coverage for sure! I'm not sure about all the flu vaccines... H1N1 seems so new to already have a vaccine available - do they even know the side affects of the shot yet; certainly not long term ones! We'll see. We may just hole up here at home for the winter! :) Not really!
Well, the girlies are napping currently, but I don't have time to get the promised - "The good, the bad, and the ugly - the Reality of a Twin mommy" post up. Maybe tomorrow!
