Meet our Baby Boy!

Took this on Saturday night... 20 wks 4 days


Copied a photo of a baby and enlarged it to size (according to my pregnancy book it should be 6 1/2 inches from crown to rump) Actually, the baby ended up laying the other way, with his head being on my right side, and feet on my left, at least 2 days later at my ultrasound.


20 week ultrasound at 20wks 6 days - this is like you're looking straight at our baby - top of head at left, brain, 2 eyes, nose and mouth open in a little "o" are all dark spots. Body is on the right side. Elbow and arm is up and hand was up by ear. It will be interesting to see when he's born, but his little head sure looks long.


I originally wasn't going to post this, but my husband said it was fine. (I think he's a little proud of his son!) Hiney and legs with boy parts between legs like you're looking up from the bottom.


Best arm photo... they kept moving! Hand/arm is on left side. Legs are on right. Like you're looking at him from the bottom up.


Best feet picture since they kept moving too! One is kinda sideways on the bottom, and the other is a partial flat foot with heel visible.


We didn't get a profile head photo, which one of the standard photos... this little man was laying the wrong way, and didn't want to move even when I got up to use the restroom. It was harder for the tech to get the photos and measurements she needed since he was moving so much. She mentioned it several times that he was so active. I wonder if that's a sign of things to come...
The machine estimates our baby boy weighs 15 oz. and is measuring right according to my due date based on head, abdomen and leg bone measurements, well actually a couple days ahead. The heart rate was 145 bpm. Everything looked great.
It was found that I have placenta previa... meaning the placenta attached at the bottom of my uterus, and is covering my cervix. I guess most of the time as the uterus grows during pregnancy, the placenta ends up "migrating" upwards, leaving the cervix clear. My Dr. is optimistic that will be the case for me. He'll recheck me again in 7 weeks (28wks) to see.

After the ultrasound, I got these for my kiddos... so cute! :)


And the name. We are going to name this little boy John David... after his great grandfather. When my hubby called his grandpa to tell him the news that it was a boy, he also shared the name. Grandpa Davy was very proud! I think we'll call him "John David" but we'll see what sticks after he is born. I can pretty much say that we won't call him Johnny. I have a couple "John's" on my side and there are a couple "John's" on my hubby's side. So, I'm guessing this baby will be "James' John", or "Cindy's John." That's one reason why we thought "John David" might ease some confusion, plus I think it sounds very stately. Hopefully there won't be any government confusion between our son and his great-grandpa since their names will be exactly the same, but they will be born 85 years apart, and live in different states... but who knows. The name also fits our name "formula" - Biblical first name and family middle name. The girl name we had chosen was Ruth Joanna.

1st Ultrasound for Baby #3

Don't worry... it's just one!

I admit, I was pretty nervous going into this ultrasound. I had a dream a few days ago, that I was having 9 babies... but I realistically knew that wasn't possible as this was a natural conception. There were days where I was just convinced it was twins again, and then others, I thought it was just one. So, "mother's intuition" was out the window on this one. I thought, would not have been shocked to hear it was a multiple gestation again. I guess after you've heard it once, it's not as shocking. When I saw this image on the screen, I thought - well, it's twins again, but I asked the tech anyway. She said no, that the whitish area on the right (in the black circle) is just the yolk sac (what nourishes the baby before the placenta takes over at 12 weeks or so.) The bigger whitish area on the left of the black circle is our baby! Whew! So, we're having one! (Although, a part of me is still skeptical... as we had the first ultrasound with the girls thinking it was just one too... that was at 6 wks, and the re-do one was at 8 weeks) Today's ultrasound was at 7 weeks exactly. The baby measured 6 wks 6 days, so they'll probably leave my due date of July 17. Also, we saw the heart beat... going strong at 140 beats per minute. I took the girls with me... and I talked to them about seeing our tiny baby on the TV screen. I think they were expecting a full term baby, so this was kinda non-interesting to them. I ended up having to have an "internal" ultrasound, and thank goodness I brought the leash/harnesses, so I could keep them near me. I had packed some snacks for the visit too. The ultrasound tech was nervous about them being there and asked if they'd sit still... and finally said "well, we'll give it a try." No one told me that I shouldn't bring them. Hannah got mad that the "lady" wouldn't give her "colors" so she could color, but that was at the very end.
